Counting Down

All I Want For Christmas

is a Kindle.

A friend at work just got one and it is the best gift for any reader out there. You can download and read books, newspapers, magazines or even audio books. It is the size of a book and when you hold it it actually feels like a soft leather bound book. It has Wi-Fi so that you can download books, newspapers and magazines from amazon anywhere there is Wi-Fi.

Reading Suggestions

I have spent the last couple of weeks devouring books. TV hasn't been very good lately! I started with "The Glass Castle", by Jeanette Wells. It is a memoir, but reads like a novel. This is a very powerful book. I definitely think it would be a great bookclub suggestion.

Next I read "The Senator's Wife", by Sue Miller. It was another exceptional book. Then it was back to a memior "Running with Scissors", by Augsten Burroughs. This was a good book, but really tough emotionally to read. There are a couple of situations in the book that were very difficult to read - think "Brokeback Mountain".

Now I have started "Vinegar Hill", I have only read 20 pages so I am not sure how this one will end up. I will let you know.

Anyone have other reading suggestions? Lately I enjoy reading memoirs though that might get a little old soon.

Earlier This Week

This was the price of gas at the beginning of this week. Yesterday afernoon I paid $1.91. You might think this is a weird thing to blog about, however, I want to document when we last saw gas prices below $2.00. In my mind we are still paying close to $4.00 as that was the price right before Hurricane Ike.
Since then the prices have continued to drop. This is a good news bad news situation as the companies Cisco and I work for have been benefiting greatly from the high gas prices. We know that Exxon recently decided not procede with 2 oil related projects. This means that the enginnering company hired to do the work will most likely begin laying off engineers. Not good news! I hope it doesn't spread.

El Salvador

Here are a few pictures that Cisco took while he was in El Salvador.

Returning home after washing the clothes in the river. Those buckets are vey heavy from wet clothes.

Main mode of transportation (back of a pick-up). The driver makes his living transporting people into town on the back of his truck.

This is where Cisco and all of his siblings went to school. It is no longer a school, but is being used for other purposes.

3rd Place

Daniel had his first Gymnastics Competition last night and came in 3rd place. Granted there were only 4 kids on the blue team competing last night. The 1st place winner is 12 years old. For only being on the team for 6 weeks we are very proud of all he has learned.
Here he is on the rings.
